What loan amount qualifies as a VA jumbo loan?

Any VA loan that goes above the conforming loan limits set by the FHFA counts as a VA jumbo loan. In 2025, the baseline limit is $766,550, but in high-cost counties (like parts of California, Hawaii, and Virginia) it can be over $1,149,825. With full VA entitlement, there’s technically no maximum VA loan amount—your income, credit, and lender guidelines set the cap.

How much can I borrow with a VA jumbo loan?

There’s no maximum VA loan amount when you have full entitlement. Thanks to the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act, VA borrowers are no longer capped by county loan limits—the size of your VA jumbo loan is determined by your entitlement, income, and lender guidelines. That means you could finance a home well above $1 million with zero down payment.

For construction financing, VA’s One-Time Close Construction Loan program allows loan amounts up to $4 million.

Do VA jumbo loans require perfect credit?
